Genoa’s pre-season friendly against Kaiserslautern has been called off due to security fears as fans of the German club are twinned with those of Grifone rivals, Hellas Verona.
Genoa confirmed on Friday that their upcoming friendly against German side Kaiserslautern has been cancelled.
The match was supposed to be played at the Stadio Benatti in Moena (Trentino Alto Adige) on July 19, 2025, at 15:30 local time (14:30 BST).
As Genoa stated, public authorities in the Trento Province ruled that the match should not be played due to security issues.
Gazzetta has explained that the primary concern stemmed from the twinning between Kaiserslautern supporters and those of Hellas Verona, who are among Genoa’s fiercest rivals in Serie A.
Furthermore, the local Stadio Benatti in Moena would not offer the required safety measures to deal with a possible emergency. Genoa will still train at the same stadium in front of their fans tomorrow.
In the meantime, the Grifone confirmed Valentin Carboni’s loan move from Inter on Friday.
