Liverpool star makes emotional statement after club fails to qualify for Champions League

Liverpool was officially eliminated from next year's Champions League thanks to Manchester United's 4-1 win over Chelsea on Thursday evening.

That win for United means that Liverpool cannot finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, excluding the club from Champions League play.

This result is not sitting well with Liverpool star Mo Salah, who issued an angry and emotional statement on social media Thursday evening.

This result seemed inevitable for Liverpool following a draw with Aston Villa on Saturday, giving the club a nearly insurmountable deficit.  It was going to need United to completely collapse in its final two matches, and that simply did not happen.

The top four in the Premier League table are Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle. Liverpool will finish the season in fifth place.

This is the first time since the 2015-16 season that Liverpool has not finished in the top four of the Premier League table.

Liverpool lost the 2022 Champions League Final to Real Madrid. They won the Champions League in 2019 and followed that up by winning the Premier League during the 2019-20 season.

For a club that has known that much success in recent years, a fifth-place finish this season has to be seen as a massive disappointment. Salah was probably just speaking for everybody involved with the club and its fans with that statement.
