Yesterday, we reported here on The Celtic Star that Luis Palma was on the verge of sealing a season-long loan move to Polish champions Lech Poznań, and today those reports have now been all but confirmed by media outlets in his native Honduras.
The 24-year-old winger is expected to travel to Poland this weekend to finalise the switch and will be officially unveiled by the club on Monday, July 21st.
‘Luis Palma’s dilemma is over! Diaro Diez has confirmed that Celtic have reached an agreement with Lech Poznan of Poland for the loan of the Catracho for one year with an option to buy.
‘The negotiations have been carried out by his agent, Paulo Hernández, being great news for the Honduran, who will stay in rhythm to be able to arrive at the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers with a good pace.’
‘Fútbol Centroamérica has learned in EXLUSIVA that Luis Enrique Palma Oseguera will be presented on Monday, July 21 . Palma will travel from Honduras to Poland on Saturday so that two days later he can wear the colors of his new club in Europe.Journalist Álvaro De La Rocha was also able to learn that Luis Enrique is going to wear the number 77 on his back, the task is to recover his best version.’
Palma’s time at Celtic has been a curious one. Signed from Aris as part of the disastrous summer ‘23 transfer window, the Honduran international showed flashes of real quality – particularly during Brendan Rodgers’ first Champions League campaign back in charge.
But his form dipped, and game time became increasingly limited in the second half of that season, and practically non-existent last campaign. With pre-season well under way and Palma not part of the squad’s recent outings, the writing seemed on the wall.
Now, Palma gets the chance to reignite his career with a club playing at the top end of their domestic league and gearing up for Champions League qualifiers. That platform could be vital for a player still hoping to make a major impact on the international stage, with the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers looming.
The move itself is structured as a loan with an option to buy. While Celtic will perhaps monitor his progress closely, the inclusion of a buy clause signals the likelihood that Palma’s time in the Hoops may be drawing to a close permanently, should things go well in Poland.
From a Celtic point of view, the move makes sense. Palma was unlikely to play a central role this season, particularly with the wide areas an area the manager has demanded quality signings for. Offloading a fringe player who still has significant value, and potential, gives the club a chance to reassess next summer should the option to buy not be taken up.
And as for Palma himself, it’s a fresh start in a strong European league with Champions League football to boot. The hope will be that he finds the rhythm and confidence that initially made him such an exciting signing in the first place.
He’ll wear the number 77 shirt at Lech Poznań – and the task now is simple – get back to his best, get his permanent move, and be ready for the World Cup qualifiers for Honduras.
BEST OF LUCK LUIS.
