Man United's Paul Pogba removed from France soccer team following positive COVID-19 test

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been removed from France's lineup after testing positive for the coronavirus. France manager Didier Deschamps said that Eduardo Camavinga would be replacing Pogba for the team's scheduled matches against Sweden and Croatia next month.

"I had to make a last-minute change to this list because Paul Pogba was planned to be in this list," Deschamps said. "But unfortunately for him, he took a test [for COVID-19] yesterday which turned out to be positive today, so at the last minute he was replaced by Eduardo Camavinga."

Unfortunately, this also likely means that Pogba will miss at least the start of preseason training with Manchester United, which is scheduled to begin next week. Man United confirmed Pogba's current status in a public statement.

"Paul has been replaced in the French squad after testing positive for Covid-19. Everybody at United wishes him a speedy recovery ahead of the new season," the statement said.

Teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also expected to miss at least a portion of preseason training as a result of a required 14-day quarantine he is undertaking after returning from Dubai.

The Guardian tried to figure out if Wan-Bissaka had permission from Man United to go to Dubai given the trip's proximity to preseason but did not get a confirmed answer either way.

Man United's team captain Harry Maguire found himself in legal trouble, as he was convicted in a Greek court of aggravated assault, verbal assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery following a fight on the island of Mykonos. Maguire, who has denied any wrongdoing on his part, has appealed the ruling.
