Manchester United are in the preparation stages for next season, with qualification for the Champions League seen as pivotal.
United will already play in the Premier League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup, with every side in England’s top four divisions guaranteed a place in the latter two cup competitions.
European competitions, however, are not guaranteed and are limited to those who finish at the summit of the table in the season prior.
Manchester United’s men’s team will play in next season’s Champions League, having undergone a majorly impressive second half of the season comeback under the leadership of Michael Carrick.
But, the women’s team have now missed out on qualification for Europe’s top club competition for next season due to their table position.
Marc Skinner’s side currently sit fourth in the Women’s Super League and bad recent form has not helped the side’s table position.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City will be the three sides from the league to enter qualification for next season’s Women’s Champions League which starts later this year.
Although Manchester United made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament during the 2025-26 season, beating sides such as Atletico Madrid in the process of doing so, they will not be present to try and have similar moments next season.
Marc Skinner’s future at the club now appears more uncertain with no silverware this season applying pressure to his situation.
CentreDevils exclusively revealed that Champions League qualification was seen as a crucial objective within the club this season and that Skinner was already under review.
It remains to be seen whether the club will decide to change although it is arguably clear that failure to qualify for the Champions League will certainly frustrate supporters and will cause the team not to meet one of their clear objectives.
