Manchester United were able to trim some players in the previous summer transfer window, and going forward, there are still a handful of players the Red Devils would like to see out of the club.
Over the years, Man United have accrued a lot of transfers that simply did not make sense, including many midfielders and wide fullback types who are not materially helping the team.
One of those players is left back Tyrell Malacia, who joined Manchester United in 2022 under Erik ten Hag’s watch. Injuries and underwhelming play have pushed Malacia to the periphery of the squad, and he was actually supposed to be transferred this past summer window.
However, according to a report from beat reporter Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic fame, Manchester United didn’t actually send up selling Malacia because the players stepped in to save him from an almost certain fate of a transfer out.
Per Whitwell, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was pushing to sell Malacia off, but he decided to ask Malacia’s teammates about their opinion of the Dutch left back at the end of the window before making his final decision to sell or keep.
The players had their say and voted for Malacia to stay, so Amorim took that into account and decided to keep the underperforming 26-year-old for one last shot after all.
Though Malacia hasn’t been used much this season, Patrick Dorgu’s own underwhelming play since his transfer from Lecce has allowed Malacia to see some daylight in the squad as a left wing back.
