Manchester United continue to reshape their midfield plans ahead of the January transfer window as the club looks to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad.

The Red Devils have been aggressively scouting players across the world, identifying prospects who could eventually develop into key first-team contributors.

One of the names they brought in for assessment was Senegalese midfielder Mouhamed Dabo, who recently spent time on trial at Carrington as United explored the possibility of signing him.

However, the club has now stepped away from the deal, according to journalist Christopher Michel.

Dabo has since opted to join NK Kustosija, who compete in Croatia’s second tier, ending any short-term pathway to Old Trafford.

United’s withdrawal reflects the club’s confidence in two midfielders already secured—one incoming and one homegrown.

The first is Cristian Orozco, the highly rated, hard-working defensive midfielder whose transfer has already been wrapped up.

The second, and arguably more significant internally, is Jim Thwaites, an 18-year-old academy star who has quickly become one of the most talked-about youngsters at the club.

Thwaites has trained with the first team on multiple occasions this season and is admired for what observers have described as an “almost Spanish style of play”.

Within the club, he has even been likened to a hybrid of Paul Scholes and David Beckham.

Having excelled at both under-18 and under-21 levels, he is increasingly viewed as someone capable of making the jump into senior football.

His emergence arrives at a moment of uncertainty surrounding the futures of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Kobbie Mainoo, all of whom have been linked with potential moves away from United.

In the midst of all the external scouting and transfer activity, the decision not to sign Dabo ultimately underlines that United feel they already possess the right profiles.
