Nemanja Matic has insisted that Manchester United’s England players will learn from this summer’s heartbreak, having lost on penalties to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

Luke Shaw was the star of the tournament from a Manchester United perspective, scoring England’s only goal in the final. Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho all took penalties in the shootout, with the two wingers, unfortunately, seeing their efforts missed and saved respectively.

Matic, who retired from international duty following the World Cup in 2018, has insisted that Manchester United’s representatives in the final at Wembley will learn from the loss and come back stronger.

“That’s football. It’s always hard to predict what’s going to happen,” Matic told the official Manchester United website. “In a final, everything is possible; two great teams and everyone wants to win the trophy.

“I’m happy for our guys that they played in a final, and to be second in Europe is not easy. Of course, they wanted to win, but they are still young and they will have more chances to show their qualities.
