Italian businessman Claudio Lotito became the president of Lazio 17 years ago today.

As seen in a post on Lazio’s Instagram page earlier today, the 64-year-old Italian took over on 19th July 2004, helping to save the club after they came dangerously close to bankruptcy following the collapse of Sergio Cragnotti’s Cirio company.

Since taking over in 2004, Lazio have won six trophies – three Coppa Italia titles and three Supercoppa Italiana.

Lazio posted a photo of Lotito alongside the caption: “On 19 July 2004, Claudio Lotito became the President of S.S. Lazio.”
