Report: FC Dallas, Nashville SC to resume MLS regular season

FC Dallas and Nashville SC, the two clubs that missed the MLS is Back tournament held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex after suffering coronavirus outbreaks within their squads, will begin the resumption of the Major League Soccer regular season later this month.

The Athletic's Sam Stejskal and Paul Tenorio are reporting that Dallas will host Nashville at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on Aug. 12. The two sides could play at that same venue a second time on Aug. 16.

Stejskal and Tenorio added that "a select number" of Dallas season-ticket holders could be permitted to attend the match. On Wednesday, MLS commissioner Don Garber said during an FS1 appearance that clubs will resume the campaign with in-market games following the MLS is Back Final next Tuesday. Garber explained that fans may attend contests if permitted by state and local health and safety guidelines:

According to The Athletic, other clubs will resume the season halted in March after two matchdays on Aug. 21. Montreal Impact, Toronto FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps will play each other twice from Aug. 21 to Sept. 13 due to Canadian quarantine restrictions. Those clubs are expected to establish bases in the United States to complete the remainder of their seasons at some point in September.

Currently, MLB is the only top-flight team competition conducting a return-to-play scenario that involves personnel traveling for in-market games in the United States. Since Opening Day on July 23, the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals experienced widespread coronavirus outbreaks that temporarily paused their seasons.
