Manchester United’s focus now turns to the transfer window upon the conclusion of the Premier League season.
In their final game, Manchester United overcame Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0, in a game where Mason Mount had to fill in midfield next to Kobbie Mainoo.
The 27-year-old played well, but it’s clear the club need a stronger long-term replacement for Casemiro in the heart of their midfield – and the recruitment team have been handed a strong budget to do so.
That next player could be Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has been strongly linked to signing for Michael Carrick’s side.
According to a report by Niccolo Ceccarini via TuttoMercatoWeb, “the Red Devils are close to finding an understanding with Newcastle for Sandro Tonali.”
Ceccarini continued to report that Italian giants Juventus also thought about signing Tonali, but “had to give up in the face of the very high demands of the English club.”
It’s news that comes alongside reports that Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, which Ceccarini reaffirms in his article.
This news coming from Italy is good news for Manchester United fans, as the club seeks to wrap up its summer business as early as possible.
With Sandro Tonali not heading to the World Cup after his nation, Italy, failed to qualify, it could make a deal easier, with his services now available until the new season commences in August.
As Manchester United search for the next partner to Kobbie Mainoo, who recently pledged his allegiance to his boyhood club United, suiting their no.37’s qualities will be essential.
If both Tonali and Ederson fit the bill, then United may go ahead with both signings – but it’s great to have all possibilities on the table before the window opens on June 15.
