Marco Sportiello has officially returned to Atalanta on a permanent transfer from Milan.

Italian goalkeeper Sportiello has returned to Atalanta for his third stint at the Gewiss Stadium.

Football Italia reported the agreement between the 33-year-old and Atalanta earlier this week.

Sportiello joins Atalanta: the official statement

“Atalanta BC are pleased to announce the permanent transfer of Marco Sportiello from AC Milan, with the goalkeeper to don the number 57 jersey,” La Dea said in a statement on Friday.

“It marks a welcome homecoming for Marco, who came through Atalanta’s Youth ranks and climbed every rung of the Academy ladder all the way to making his Serie A debut sporting the black-and-blue shirt, as he defended the Nerazzurri’s goal from 2013 until January 2017, and again from 2019 to 2023, racking up 137 appearances across all competitions during the seven and a half seasons between Atalanta’s three sticks. Among those were the historic nights such as the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 return game against Valencia and the quarterfinal showdown against Paris Saint-Germain. He now returns to Bergamo with a wealth of experience and over 200 appearances in the Italian top-flight division (208, to be exact), considering also his spells at Fiorentina, Frosinone and Milan.

“The Percassi and Pagliuca families, together with the entire Club, extend the warmest of welcomes back to Marco, wishing him nothing but personal and collective success as he once again dons the Atalanta shirt.”

Milan confirm Sportiello exit

Milan also confirmed Sportiello’s move with an official statement.

“AC Milan can confirm that Marco Sportiello has made a permanent transfer to Atalanta BC,” said the Rossoneri.

“The Club would like to thank Marco for his constant commitment and professionalism and wishes him all the best for his future personal and professional endeavours.”
