Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Arnaut Danjuma from Spanish side Villarreal.

The Dutch winger had been heavily linked with a move to Everton, with reports suggesting that a deal had been all but done over the weekend.

However, with the sacking of Frank Lampard on Monday, it seems Danjuma had second thoughts about moving to the Toffees.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Danjuma is now set to join Tottenham and will undergo a medical in London today.

This is a significant development for Tottenham, as they have managed to hijack Everton’s deal for the player at the last minute.

The Times reports that Spurs have agreed on terms with Villarreal for a loan deal which they will pay £2.5m for with a £27 million purchase option.

This is a significant increase from Everton’s offer of a loan deal with no permanent clause included.

The decision to include a purchase option in the deal reflects Tottenham’s confidence in Danjuma’s ability to make an impact in the Premier League.

The winger struggled to make an impact during his time with Bournemouth, but Tottenham believes he has what it takes to succeed in the English top-flight.

If Danjuma can impress during his loan spell, Tottenham may exercise the £27 million purchase option and keep him on the team for years to come.

The report also claims that Danjuma was offered to Tottenham on Monday following the sacking of Frank Lampard from Everton.

This presented an opportunity for Tottenham to swoop in and secure the services of the player, who was close to joining Everton.

The Toffees will no doubt be feeling frustrated at the turn of events, but Tottenham have profited from the turn of events at the Merseyside club and have got their man.
