
Xabi Alonso is aligned with Chelsea on squad development and what’s required in the transfer market according to The Athletic.
Following Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat against Manchester City at Wembley it was reported the Blues had reached an agreement with Alonso.
The Spaniard is thought to have agreed a four year contract until 2030, with Chelsea expected to officially announce Alonso on Sunday morning.
Alonso was Chelsea’s preferred choice, and the Blues have handed him the title of manager rather than head coach, as was the case with Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
Chelsea’s players are said to be excited about the arrival of Alonso, and it’s a real coup for the Blues to get the 44-year-old through the door.
Alonso was arguably the best possible appointment Chelsea could make, and it’s now vital he’s backed in the transfer window this summer.
It’s believed Alonso will have a greater say in transfers, and The Athletic have reported he’s aligned with Chelsea on squad development and what’s required in the market.
The report adds like the club, Alonso believes there’s quality to work with, whilst there are areas which need improving and strengthening.
Mike Penders is in contention to be Chelsea’s number one next season after impressing on loan at Strasbourg this season.
Chelsea have a decision to make between the sticks, and were recently linked with Mike Maignan again, and it’ll be interesting to see what decision they make.
