Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a defeat against Crystal Palace in the Premier League yesterday.

The North London club made multiple changes to the team and handed some of the fringe players an opportunity to impress ahead of the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United.

However, they failed to grab the opportunity presented to them, and it seems unlikely that they will be given a chance to compete in Tottenham’s biggest game of the season.

Ange Postecoglou slams underperformers

Manager Ange Postecoglou has now revealed to Sky Sports that he is disappointed with the way the players responded to the opportunity handed to them, and they should have made the most of the situation. His comments will certainly worry the fringe players at Tottenham, and it remains to be seen how the North London outfit lineup for the final.

Postecoglou said: “Guys had an opportunity today to put their name forward and put pressure on the guys who played the other night but there wasn’t any compelling evidence.

“This is what I’m trying to push with these guys, sometimes in football you’ve got to take the opportunity before you. It’s never going to be perfect. There is an opportunity there. You have to take it when its presented in you. I’m disappointed more didn’t step forward today.”

Can Tottenham finish the season strongly?

This has been a devastating campaign for Tottenham, and they are likely to finish in the bottom half. For a club of their stature, it is a huge blow. It remains to be seen whether they can redeem themselves with a strong performance in the final against Manchester United.

If they win the tournament, they will secure Champions League qualification for the next season, and it would end their prolonged wait for a trophy as well.
