Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing highly-rated Hertha BSC talent Kennet Eichhorn

Tottenham Hotspur have been compounding on their transfer strategy to bring in highly-rated young players in N17. The Lilywhites have invested in so many young profiles in recent years and want to continue that approach in the next transfer windows too.

Xavi Simons, Mathys Tel and Kota Takai were the youngsters that arrived at Hotspur Way in the past summer transfer window. Spurs were desperate for midfield reinforcements, and after missing out on several targets, managed to land Joao Palhinha. Signed on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, Palhinha has been among the club’s standout performers thanks to his defensive prowess, reading of the game, physicality and experience.

The impact he has made in three months has led to the north London club bosses planning to open formal talks with Bayern Munich to sign the Portuguese international on a permanent deal. However, set to turn 31 in July, Palhinha would not be deemed as a long-term solution to Tottenham’s midfield conundrum. While Thomas Frank does have Archie Gray as a long-term prospect for the No.6 role, Spurs are looking to bring another gem in.

Hertha BSC prodigy Kennet Eichhorn on the radar of Tottenham

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are among several European clubs watching Hertha BSC talent Kennet Eichhorn.

Kennet Eichhorn has become the youngest player in the history of Bundesliga 2, becoming a regular starter for Hertha BSC. One of the most exciting youngsters in the game, the defensive midfielder has been among the rare bright spots in an otherwise struggling Hertha side in Bundesliga 2, making 12 appearances thus far.

The 16-year-old’s performances in the second tier of German football has caught the attention of Europe’s elites. Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Brighton and Arsenal are all locked in the transfer battle to sign Eichhorn.

The biggest lure for the clubs is the teenager’s paltry release clause of €12m, the report adds. Bayern and RB Leipzig are presently leading the race for Eichhorn’s signature, maximising their Bundesliga pedigree.

“He’s got that rare blend of street smarts and sophistication,” one insider told TEAMtalk.

“At £10.5m, he’s a steal before he becomes a sensation.”

Spurs can follow the Luka Vuskovic pathway

Unlike other European clubs in the race, Spurs can only sign an EU player after he turns 18 years old. That said, a deal for Eichhorn can be arranged in advance.

In 2023, the north Londoners signed Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split as a 16-year-old. After spending the last two years out on loan, Vuskovic officially joined Tottenham earlier this July. The big Croat made his name on loan at KVC Westerlo and is now impressing with HSV Hamburger in the Bundesliga.

Spurs can simply follow the Vuskovic path by paying Eichhorn’s modest release in January itself and allowing him to complete the season with Hertha. Later, they could decide to loan him out to a Bundesliga club or any other top European league, before the midfielder officially joins Tottenham in July 2027.

All in all, Tottenham cannot let a talent like Eichhorn slip away from their hands.
