Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz in the ongoing summer transfer window as Daniel Levy looks to support the new head coach Thomas Frank with qualitative signings.
If we look into the last season, there were multiple instances that saw the Lilywhites struggle in the middle of the park, especially given the inconsistencies of having Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr in the middle of the park.
So to resolve that, Tottenham have been looking to sign 27-year-old midfielder Douglas Luiz, who is said to prefer a move to Hotspur Way. And with the fact that his employers are looking to clear out, he is expectedly one of the first names out of Turin in the ongoing summer transfer window.
But despite his preference to join the North Londoners, Premier League duo Everton and West Ham have also been in the race to secure his signature. And according to the latest from Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, the Hammers have been pushing hard to land the 27-year-old in the ongoing summer window. But that being said, the report also claims that David Moyes’ Blues are also still lurking in the background and are ready to take advantage if Juventus ends up rejecting the Hammers’ proposal.
We saw Douglas Luiz get his heading move to Juventus in the last summer transfer window, which was an effort given his exemplary performances at Villa Park. And what we were expecting to be his breakout into headlines in Serie A has turned into a nightmare given how he played less than 1,000 minutes in 27 games because of consistent fitness problems complemented by his lack of rhythm.
But while there are a lot of clubs looking to sign Luiz in the ongoing summer transfer window, West Ham are said to be currently leading the race, with the Hammers offering Juve an initial €10m loan fee with an option to buy for €25-30m to land Luiz. The tender has a possibility of the option turning into an obligation based on conditions along the season.
For Tottenham, it is an easy financial and project flex if they want to sign Luiz. But Daniel Levy needs to decide whether he needs the Brazilian international to take up that Bissouma position in the starting 11, or does he want to bring in someone else given the North Londoners links with a lot of other midfielders like Richard Rios?
