Mason Burstow celebrated on Twitter today after his first training session with the first team at Chelsea.

The youngster – who still doesn’t have a “Blue Tick” on the social media platform – was excited to see his rapid rise to the top continue.

He has come from non-league football to training with international superstars under the watchful eye of Thomas Tuchel in the blink of an eye, so perhaps it’s no surprise to hear from the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella about the club’s plans for him.

After signing from Charlton in January, where he stayed on loan for the rest of the season, it would make sense to send him back to League One to continue playing regularly.

But as he’s come from a “non elite” background, it seems Chelsea think he would be best served with a season in their academy and youth teams before heading back to senior football.

It’s the reverse of the usual pattern, and we hope it’s a smart move for his progress. He looks really exciting, and we don’t want to disrupt his development.
