Tatiana Weston-Webb is taking a well-deserved respite from the pro surfing circus.

The surfer representing Brazil, with ties to Hawaii as well, took the year of the World Surf League’s Championship Tour to focus on her mental health. Oh yeah, and to start a family with her husband, fellow pro surfer, Jesse Mendes. And their baby is due soon.

But Tati being Tati, she’s still surfing right up until the deadline. See below.

At 31 weeks pregnant, Tati still paddled out (both on a longboard and shortboard) for a few waves before the baby arrives in just a few more weeks. And her pro surfing cohort was quick to applaud the Olympic silver medalist from the Paris 2024 Games:

“Belly up paddle?” – Italo Ferreira

“sooo good!! amazing tati” – Bettylou Sakura Johnson

“That gives ‘baby on board’ a whole new meaning. Love it!!” – Erin Brooks

Following the Olympics, Tati did some soul searching. As mentioned, she decided to take a break from competitive surfing to focus on herself, mental health, and personal growth outside of the jersey. In a recent interview, Tati told SURFER:

“It wasn’t a decision I took lightly. Over time, I started noticing signs of emotional exhaustion creeping in—things like persistent fatigue, lack of motivation, and difficulty finding joy in competition. I thought I could push through it, but there came a point where I realized I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I reached a mental threshold where continuing on the same path would only make things worse.”

With many big names in pro surfing returning to the Championship Tour in 2026 – including a fellow new mommy in Carissa Moore – perhaps Tati’s comeback is nigh. But first, she’s got to pop out that new baby. Should be coming very soon.

A preemptive congrats to both Tati and Jesse.
