Team GB have a gold medal at Tokyo 2020, with Adam Peaty having successfully defended his 100m breaststroke title.

Peaty was one of Team GB’s biggest hopes to win a gold medal heading into the games, with the Staffordshire born swimmer holding the breaststroke world record, a record which he has bettered multiple times.

Though, considering how things were panning out this year, with Team GB’s world number one skeet shooter Amber Hill having tested positive for COVID-19 and being ruled out of the games, you could be forgiven if you were waiting for something to go wrong.

Peaty is just TOO good, though, and proved it in the pool once again, completing the 100m breaststroke in 57.37 seconds and delivering Team GB’s first gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

Peaty won gold at the 2016 Olympics and has gone on to be extremely successful since, making him the frontrunner to win gold in the pool at Tokyo 2020.

To shrug off that level of expectation and perform to your highest level is the mark of a great athlete, which he absolutely is. Let’s hope there’s plenty more golds to come from Team GB.
