Day 2 at the ATP event in Hong Kong will feature the debut of some seeds, as well as the return to action of 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, who missed most of 2023 due to injury and will be looking to get back to his best this year. It should be a day filled with high quality and exciting action.

ATP Hong Kong Day 2 Predictions

Liam Broady vs Pedro Cachin

Head-to-head: first meeting

On clay, Cachin would have the edge but on a hard court it is a very even matchup on paper. They never faced previously, which makes it even harder to call. Cachin lost his final four matches of 2023, while Broady had a nice run through qualifying here in Hong Kong and should have some confidence and momentum, giving him a slight edge.
Prediction: Broady in 3

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Taro Daniel

Head-to-head: Kecmanovic 1-1 Daniel

Kecmanovic had a very promising early 2022 performance, but hasn’t quite reached that level again since. He’s still relatively young at 24, has time on his side and will definitely be aiming for a big 2024. Daniel is a veteran of the circuit and always a potentially tricky opponents, but Kecmanovic has far greater upside and should be winning this, especially on a hard court.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 2

Borna Gojo vs Arthur Fils

Head-to-head: first meeting

Both players had very solid ends of 2023, with Gojo making Round 4 at the US Open (only losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic) and Fils making the final at Antwerp and the NextGen Finals. Fils in particular is expected to have a breakthrough in 2024, perhaps even becoming the French #1. He has a great opportunity to start that breakthrough here.
Prediction: Fils in 2

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Marin Cilic

Head-to-head: Cilic 2-2 Struff

Struff is just off his best ever season, ranked at #25 in the world, while Cilic is all the way down at #674 after a year where he struggled with injuries and barely played. Cilic has easily the higher upside of the two players, but at this point Struff should have the edge as this is just Cilic’s first match and it’s unclear even how fit he will actually be.
Prediction: Struff in 2
