British No. 1 Dan Evans tests positive for COVID-19, out of Olympics

For the second straight day, a high-profile tennis player from Great Britain had to withdraw from the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo due to testing positive for COVID-19.

According to Sky Sports, British men's No. 1 Dan Evans has pulled out of the Olympics after he tested positive for the coronavirus.

"Unfortunately I recently tested positive for COVID-19," Evans explained in a statement shared on his Instagram story. "As a result, I will not be able to prepare and get myself ready for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. I am hugely disappointed and currently self-isolating according to the guidelines as set out by the government. I want to wish the entire GB team all the very best for the Games and look forward to being on the court in the near future."

Most recently, Evans fell to Sebastian Korda in the third round of the men's singles at Wimbledon earlier this month.

On Tuesday, British women's No. 1 Johanna Konta confirmed she won't participate in the Olympics after a positive COVID-19 test result left her unable to adequately train for the Games.

Evans joins Konta, Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep and Dominic Thiem among well-known tennis players not competing in Tokyo. Reigning Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic still hasn't publicly declared his finalized plans for the Olympics.
