Novak Djokovic is on the verge of making more history in Geneva, and he needs just one win to do so. During today’s Geneva Open final against Hubert Hurkacz, he will look for his 100th ATP Title. He has not won an ATP title since the 2023 ATP Finals and not a career title since winning the Olympic Gold medal at the Paris Olympics last year.

His form on clay was questionable after he had opening round defeats at Monte Carlo and Madrid. However, a title match in Geneva is just what the doctor ordered for Djokovic going into Roland Garros. However, can he finally go past the final hurdle and make history once again?

Hubert Hurkacz Awaits

Hubert Hurkacz is not an unknown player on the ATP Tour. He has secured Masters 1000 titles in Miami 2021 and Shanghai Masters 2023. Moreover, he has won matches against high-profile players, such as Roger Federer in the Wimbledon 2021 quarterfinals. That was notably the final singles match of the Swiss Maestro’s career. At the Geneva Open this year, he has already knocked out top seed Taylor Fritz.

On the other hand, Djokovic has avenged his Madrid Open loss to Matteo Arnaldi. This win came on his 38th birthday as the tournament arranged a special cake for him. Then, he beat Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 in the semifinals. Now, he hopes to add another win in his 143rd ATP Final.

Final Thoughts

If Djokovic wins his 100th ATP title, he will become the third player after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer to achieve this milestone. He will automatically become one of the favorites at Roland Garros, which never looked like being a topic after his early exits at Monte Carlo and Madrid. Although Alcaraz and Sinner are ahead of him in the pecking order, the Serb will have winning momentum in Roland Garros. Astonishingly, he has not lost a match on Paris clay since the 2022 Roland Garros quarterfinals against Rafael Nadal.
