Dating rumours have sparked up after Carlos Alcaraz hesitated to answer a question related to WTA in a post-match interview after his fourth-round win. Battling against Miomir Kecmanovic, the young Spaniard rushed through the match to dig his place in the quarterfinals.

In the on-court interview, Jim Courier asked Alcaraz if he likes to watch tennis in his free time and if he does, who he likes. The 2023 Wimbledon champion went on to narrate his favorite players. He named Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner as some of the ‘high-level’ players he likes to watch.

After his answer, Courier put Alcaraz on a spot by asking if he watched WTA. Upon this question, Alcaraz smiled slyly and answered that he definitely watches the WTA but was hesitant to take any names. He said:

When I turn the TV on and its WTA, ATP or whatever, I watch it. Carlos Alcaraz said

His answers stirred a lot of reactions on social media with many speculating that he is dating a player from the WTA. Many said that he is in the early stage of his relationship, and that is why he did not name anyone, otherwise, it would have been in the headlines. Some others think that he did not want to leave anyone out, hence he refrained.

Carlos Alcaraz’s response starts ATP vs WTA battle

For some, Alcaraz’s response would let them think that he is dating someone. To others, his reluctance to answer questions was due to less viewership of the WTA. The contestation between the ATP and the WTA is long-standing, ever since the battle of the sexes by Billie Jean King.

The women of tennis have time and time again proven themselves as being equal and in some cases better than the ATP players. Whether it is the Williams sisters or Monica Seles, Martina Navratilova or Steffi Graf. WTA has proven to be as interesting and intriguing as the men’s singles and doubles.

But Alcaraz’s response led many to believe that he in actuality does not watch the WTA at all. It has elicited several responses like “No one watches WTA” or “WTA is torture“. Responses like these filled the social media platform.

Both ATP and WTA have their own qualities and demerits. It took years for the women of tennis to fight for equal pay and it might take years for the world to see them in equal lenses.
