The Stuttgart Open welcomed many of the top WTA stars as they looked to start their clay season on a high. There were already some splendid matches that were played, but earlier today a huge upset was seen.

2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova pulled off a great victory to upset No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka. It was a hell of a quarter-final match, as both players went to and fro with the games to set up a brilliant match full of intensity.

Sabalenka took the first set quite comfortably; however, soon, the Czech returned to force the game into a third set. With hope still burning in the Wimbledon champion, she played one of her best tennis games in the last set to pull off a close victory.

Ultimately, Vondrousova upset the No. 2 seed in three sets: 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. This concluded another great quarter-final match, as the Czech stamped her place into the semi-finals. After losing her last four matches against Sabalenka, it was a heartening victory for Vondrousova.

24-year-old Czech professional Marketa Vondrousova had managed a great win against Aryna Sabalenka at the Stuttgart Open. With the stakes higher than ever, both players were playing for a spot in the last four. It was an interesting matchup given that both players were struggling a little at the moment.

Marketa Vondrousova revealed to stay calm in crucial moments as she beat Sabalenka in a tough matchup

With the players pushing for each point, they produced some interesting and tough rallies that will make the day’s highlights. However, in the end, it was the Czech with the win, as she made it to her first semi-finals of the year.

During the post-match interview, she revealed that it was a tough match, and she tried to stay calm during the tough moments. This is her first Top-10 victory of the season, and will soon hope for more in the future.

It was a very tough match, and I think a great one, too. She’s a great player, so I just tried to stay in the rallies. She hits very fast, so it’s tough to do something! But I stayed calm in the crucial moments.

Said Marketa Vondrousova in the post-match interview.

The Czech is through to the semis and will wait for her next opponent. The tournament is coming to an end, and the remaining players will play only a few interesting matches. A great start to the clay season for the winner, who will look to gain more confidence en route to the French Open.
