Garbine Muguruza says she is ready to return as a happier player following her mental struggles earlier this season.
Muguruza apologised to her fans after losing in the first round of Wimbledon, admitting that recent defeats had been ‘a very hard emotional blow’ and claiming she had ‘lost’ her tennis.
However, she now says she is ready to pick up the fight again and work on what she believes may be a crippling inconsistency in her game.
“I hope to return with a better feeling, with better tennis and a happier face,” Muguruza told Marca. “You know that I do not have the best consistency.
“I go on streaks. Sometimes I play better and sometimes not so much, and we hope that now it will change.”
Garbine Muguruza went to Wimbledon hopeful of making a real impact in SW19 again, but a 6-4, 6-0 defeat in her first match against Greetje Minnen abruptly ended her chances.
She, though, insists she is now over that disappointment and ready to finish the season strongly.

“After Wimbledon I had a couple of hard days because I didn’t end up with a good feeling. But then I thought: that’s it, there are another six months of the season and we’re going to go all out.
“Feelings can change quickly when you have a good tournament. I’m excited and wanting to continue playing. The good thing about tennis is that every week there is a tournament and everything can change next week.
“Perhaps that is what is holding me back… constantly comparing myself to that [low] moment. I have to forget things, play and that’s it. That pressure is shrinking me.”
