Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from his planned return tournament in Mallorca due to a neck injury.
Kyrgios has not played since the Australian Open in February, where he certainly made his presence felt after a self-imposed exile due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He had planned to be back for grass season, starting with Mallorca, but that will now have to delayed.
“My tennis family, I’m sorry my return has been pushed back as I am having some uncomfortable pain in my neck at the moment,” Kyrgios said on Instagram.
“I’m trying to get on top of it but as I can’t serve 100% I will only be returning when I feel I can make full impact on the tour. Will stay in touch.”
With grass season reduced this year, the Australian likely now faces a race against time to be ready.
As well as Wimbledon, Kyrgios has also said he plans on playing the US Open this year, although he did not enter the French Open, which is currently being played.
However, that is more likely to be down to his dislike of clay rather than the neck injury.
