Poland’s Iga Swiatek is currently participating in the 2024 Miami Open. She defeated Linda Noskova in the Round of 32 with a scoreline of 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4. It was a tough match as compared to the previous round, where she thumped Camila Giorgi with scores of 6-1, and 6-1.

After the match, one reporter during the press conference asked Iga Swiatek what her coach told her during the match and whether she was a fan of on-court coaching or not. The Pole replied that she has not given much thought to whether she likes receiving advice from her coaches when she is playing.

Well, I never actually, like, thought more if it would be better or not to have coaching at all or if it's nice we have that system like that right now. Honestly, when I came on tour, there was more and more coaching every season basically. Swiatek said during the press conference

The 22-year-old believes that a player should communicate the same with the coaching team before matches. From her answer, it seems like she prefers both ways. She revealed that sometimes she finds it difficult to interact with the coaches, but she also found their advice helpful when she was playing against Linda Noskova.

The best way to deal with it is to talk with your team and tell them what you want or what not. Sometimes it's not easy to have these interactions because there are a lot of emotions as well. Tonight for sure, yeah, my box just told me one thing to kind of focus on in the time when I had chaos in my head a little bit. I had something to lean on and it really helped me. Iga Swiatek will lock horns with Ekaterina Alexandrova in the next round

After eliminating Linda Noskova, Iga Swiatek will be facing Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova in the next round. Alexandrova beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) to reach the last four of the WTA 1000 event.

Alexandrova and Swiatek faced each other four times, with the latter winning three of those matches. In their last encounter, Swiatek beat the Russian in this year’s Doha Open 6-1, 6-4. But Swiatek’s lone defeat against the 29-year-old came in the 2021 Melbourne 500 Gippsland Trophy, which Alexandrova won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

Last year, Swiatek pulled out of the Miami Open due to a rib injury. In 2022, however, the Pole won her first title in the tournament by beating Japan’s Naomi Osaka in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
