Garbine Muguruza , 30, retired from tennis, but she has no regrets at all. What is she going to do afterward? During a recent interview, the former World No. 1 revealed her grand plan is to do “nothing.”
Muguruza is a former French Open and Wimbledon winner, and retiring at such an early age made people wonder why she did so. The obvious reason was the packed schedule, the fatigue from going on tours one after the other, plus she had to endure the loneliness.
After a series of poor performances, she took a break for one year only to announce her retirement. Muguruza last played at the Lyon Open in January 2023. During the interview with The Telegraph, the 30-year-old revealed she wants to build a family, spend time with her loved ones, and even wants a dog.

Garbine Muguruza, who understands what it means to empower women, doesn’t believe that a woman must always aspire to be someone. She asserted that she would love to be at home, spend time with family, and take care of the kids.
It’s bad nowadays to say something like that. It feels like I always have to say I want to be a businesswoman, I’m going to be a role model. My father always says to me, ‘Garbine, don’t forget to live life. You don’t have to be the queen of Spain – relax’. Garbine Muguruza said
Though she feels a bit of sadness leaving sports, she is relieved that she won’t have to take her tennis racket with her while going somewhere with her loved ones.
Muguruza turned pro in 2012, and four years later, she bagged her first Grand Slam title. In the same interview, Muguruza said she is proud of being the only woman to beat both Serena Williams and Venus Williams in Grand Slam finals.
The Spaniard defeated Serena at the 2016 Roland Garros. Her win over Venus in the final came next year at the Wimbledon Championships. Her next win at a big event came in 2021 when she won the WTA Finals by defeating Anett Kontaveit.
