Mirra Andreeva‘s spectacular sprint at the 2024 Australian Open ended sadly. The teen, playing against Czech player Barbora Krejčíková in the fourth round of the tournament, lost in three sets.
However, her amazing run at the Grand Slam cannot be ignored, as the way she played was way ahead of her age. She has immaculate maturity both on and off the court, becoming one of the favorites of this prestigious tournament.
In the post-match presser, when asked to give a word of advice to junior player Hannah Klugman. Her response received a lot of praise on the internet.
I’m not a star, I’m also kind of a junior. She replied
Having known Klugman from before, as the two have practiced together, she humbly replied that she does not think she is in a position to advise her as she is a junior herself and does not hold much experience.
She further went on to say that she believes it is not the right thing for her to do. As per her, junior tennis players will soon find their way onto the professional circuit if they really want it. They just need to keep fighting for it, and eventually, in a year or two, they will have made their way to the pro tournaments.
She concluded by saying that the juniors need to continue playing. Even if things do not go their way, they should be determined and not lose focus, and eventually, they will reach where they aim for.
A victorious run ends in the fourth round
After being considered a real danger for defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and US Open winner Coco Guaff, Andreeva’s jab to win the coveted trophy ends on day 8 of the AO.
Battling against Czech player, the young Russian failed to display the magical game that she had been showing ever since the tournament began.
The match began with Andreeva exponentially showcasing her usual dominance. The first set was a tad bit difficult for Krejčíková, as she was able to give back a proper return to the Russian’s serve. Andreeva used most of the court to ride over the cezch.
In the beginning of the second set, Andreeva could be seen struggling. Losing most of the points as Krejčíková showed her experience while playing almost near the net. There were many unorthodox shots, but she managed to work it out for herself. The match was now one set, all 3-6.
From the third set, Andreeva’s confidence seemed to fetter away. She seemed to be using all her energy, but it was not enough. The Czech was already dominating, and the match was easily won by Krejčíková in 6-4, 3-6, 2-6.
