World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz knocked out Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round to advance into the quarterfinals of the 2024 Miami Open. It was an easy win for the Spaniard, as he won it in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
After his win, he was asked whether he was playing his best tennis since the ankle injury he suffered in the Rio Open, where he was forced to retire in the Round of 32 match against Thiago Monteiro.
After recovering from the injury, he participated in the Indian Wells and won the title by beating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
Alcaraz has won all the matches in the ongoing tournament in straight sets. So when the first seed was asked about his game after that injury, he said that though he isn’t sure if he is producing some performances, he is happy that he is able to play to his full potential right now.
Probably. I don’t know if it’s the best game I’ve played. But without a doubt, it’s the best feeling. I’m feeling great on the court and moving great. I’m not thinking about the ankle anymore on the court. Of course, I take care of it every day. I think it’s the best feeling since summer. Alcaraz had a chaotic start to the 2024 season, with the Indian Wells being the first tournament he won. If he’s able to clinch the Sunshine Double, a couple of more points will help him dethrone Novak Djokovic from the top spot in the rankings list.
Carlos Alcaraz versus Gregor Dimitrov head-to-head record
Carlos Alcaraz will meet Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open. The two have played against each other four times in their careers.
It’s Alcaraz here who leads the head-to-head record at 3-1 since facing each other for the first time in the 2022 ATP Masters 1000 in Paris. Alcaraz won that match and beat the World No. 12 in the next two matches as well. However, it was Dimitrov who won the match in their last encounter at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Prior to the Miami Open, Dimitrov participated in the Indian Wells, losing in the fourth round to Daniil Medvedev. The only title the Bulgarian won this year was the Brisbane International, by beating Holger Rune.
