Jo-Wilfried Tsonga believes Rafael Nadal can end the debate of who the greatest player of all time is if he wins Roland Garros next month.

Nadal will be gunning or his 14th crown at the French Open, and should he get it he will pull ahead of Roger Federer by winning a 21st career Grand Slam title.

The debate over which of the big three is, and will be remembered as, the greatest male player to ever pick up a racquet has dominated the narrative in recent years.

Novak Djokovic is also firmly involved too, with him now on 18 majors after winning the Australian Open this year.

“Today, there is no one who doubts that he (Nadal) is the inevitable favourite [to win the French Open],” Tsonga told the media in Lyon.

“You ask all the players, even those who are able to beat him today, and they think he is the favourite.

“There is no doubt, he has won thirteen times in fifteen years, it’s just out of the ordinary. If there is one favourite, it’s Rafael Nadal.

“Considering that he is five years younger than Federer, what he has done is exceptional. Today we cannot question that he was the one who won the most.

“If he were to overtake Roger with the number of Grand Slam titles, there would definitely be no more debate about the greatest player of all time.”
