Pablo Andujar upsets Roger Federer at Gonet Geneva Open

Roger Federer did not last very long in just his second tournament of 2021. The tennis legend was upset in the second round of the Gonet Geneva Open, losing 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 to Pablo Andujar.

Andujar is currently ranked 75th in the world by the ATP, and the 35-year-old Spaniard has only reached the fourth round of a grand slam once in his career at the 2019 US Open. He was expected to be a relatively easy opponent for Federer, but instead, he ended up sending the 20-time grand slam champion home early.

Federer is trying to get himself back into competitive shape after he missed nearly all of last year because of a knee injury that eventually required him to get surgery. While losses are a part of the game, time is no longer on the 39-year-old's side, and it has been almost two years since his last grand slam title.

This was Federer's last tournament before the French Open, which begins next week. It has been 10 years since Federer's last victory at Roland-Garros, and he will need to leave this loss firmly in the rearview mirror if he wants to compete for his 21st career grand slam title.
