Unseeded Madison Keys sweeps No. 4 Barbora Krejčíková in Aussie Open quarters

Madison Keys is through to the semifinals at the Australian Open after beating No. 4 Barbora Krejčíková in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) on Tuesday.

The unseeded American was once ranked as high as seventh in the world, but hasn't been to the semifinals of a Grand Slam since the 2018 U.S. Open. The win against Krejčíková earned Keys a spot in the semifinals of the Australian Open for the first time since 2015.

Keys, 26, was ranked 87th in the world earlier this month, but climbed to 51st just ahead of the Australian Open by winning the warmup tournament 2022 Adelaide International 2. That still wasn't enough to earn her a seed in the tournament, but Keys has now beat Nos. 4, 8, and 11 en route to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Keys will play the winner of a quarterfinals match between No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and No. 21 Jessica Pegula. Barty is the only top five seed left in the women's singles draw.
