U.S. Open champ Emma Raducanu in doubt for Wimbledon after latest injury scare?

Reigning U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu insisted after she crashed out of the French Open via a second-round loss that she "definitely had a good first experience on the clay" and was keeping her chin up ahead of the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. 

There are now worries the 19-year-old won't be able to compete in that Grand Slam tournament set to get underway on June 27.

Per Sky Sports, Raducanu was forced to retire from her opening-round Nottingham Open match versus Viktorija Golubic on Tuesday due to an injury to her left side. She was trailing 4-3 in the first set when she acknowledged she could not continue, and she will need a scan to learn the extent of the setback. 

"The first game an absolute freak. I think I pulled something, I am not really sure what exactly happened," Raducanu explained. "I have just come off court, an absolute freak injury.

"I don't know what I could have done more about it. That is it. I need to get a scan first. I am not going to 'Google doctor' myself. I will get it checked out. Then we will see from there. 

"I have no idea (about Wimbledon). It could have just seized up and gone into spasm and then it is really bad for a few days. I have no idea. I cannot diagnosis myself. I will get it checked out."

Since the start of the new year, alone, Raducanu has battled through a painful blister during the Australian Open, what was called a "minor left leg injury" in February, and a lower back issue shortly before the main draw at Roland Garros. 

At best, her preparations for Wimbledon will likely be impacted by this latest problem. At worst, she may be sidelined through at least the end of the month.
