Jamie Murray explains what Emma Raducanu needs to do to reach Jack Draper’s level

Jamie Murray has shared his thoughts on how Emma Raducanu could follow a similar path to Jack Draper in climbing the rankings.

The 22-year-old faced a challenging draw at this year’s Wimbledon, missing out on what might have been a good chance to climb the rankings before the US hard-court season.

She’d skipped Berlin due to fitness concerns, and that decision may have cost her a seeded spot for Wimbledon.

Even so, it was still a positive week overall. While Jamie Murray wasn’t completely convinced, there were signs of progress.

Jamie Murray’s advice for Emma Raducanu after Wimbledon

Speaking to the Mirror, Murray reflected on Raducanu’s recent performance at SW19: “She actually got a good draw, playing a young British girl (Mimi Xu) in the first match.

“But if you’re unseeded then you’re going to have to play top players pretty early in the event. I would say the third round is a good result, all things considered. She had a competitive match with Sabalenka.

“Hopefully she goes and has a good summer in America. But it’s not like Jack – he was number four in the world [at Wimbledon]. He’s putting results together all the time, he’s proven that he’s world-class and a top player.”

He went on to discuss her current standing in tennis: “That’s miles away from being at the level that Jack is at. Of course she had an unbelievable result at the US Open. But she obviously needs to win a lot more matches to be talked about as a contender for these tournaments.

“But of course, the hype is obviously massive based on her story of winning the US Open a few years ago. Not to talk bad about Emma, but Jack is in a completely different place in his career than where she is.”

Emma Raducanu has a huge opportunity at the US Open

Emma Raducanu’s recent form suggests she could be hitting her stride, much like she did around this time last year. Back then, she reached the quarter-finals in Washington, only falling to Paula Badosa in a tough three-setter.

However, that momentum didn’t carry over to the US Open, where she exited in the first round.

The rest of her season was disrupted by injury, keeping her off the court until December and leaving her with few ranking points to defend in the coming months.

This means Raducanu can play without added pressure and focus on building confidence and form. If she stays healthy, it could turn into a real advantage for her.
