Nick Kyrgios’ Verdict on Whether Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz Are ‘Playing Better’ Than Big 3

Can Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz surpass the many records that the Big 3 of tennis- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic– have made? Only time will tell.

At present, the way they are playing, Nick Kyrgios thinks the two youngsters have the ability to reach great heights and break the Big 3’s records. During the latest episode of All on the Table podcast, the Aussie told Naomi Osaka‘s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, that the World No.1 and the World No.2 are playing way faster tennis than the Big 3.

I think they are playing better. I think the game keeps evolving. I watched the final of Roland Garros and then saw the final on grass between Federer and Nadal [at Wimbledon], and it’s so much slower. The pace they play is unreal.

Sinner and Alcaraz have won the last seven Majors, with Djokovic being the last player other than them to win a Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. Since then, he was only once successful in reaching one Grand Slam final- at the 2024 Wimbledon, which he lost to Alcaraz. Kyrgios is convinced that a change of the guard is happening in tennis.

It’s hard for me to say, maybe because I am getting older too, I think they will eventually surpass them, but not right now.

Nick Kyrgios added

Sinner and Alcaraz were the finalists in the last two Grand Slam events. At the French Open, the Italian ace was on the verge of victory as he had three championship points in the fourth set, but he failed to convert them, and this saw Alcaraz defend his title in five hours and 29 minutes- the longest French Open final in the history of tennis.

Then in Wimbledon, Sinner once again had championship points in the fourth set, but this time, he squandered it just once. With his win, Sinner has tied his win-loss record over Alcaraz in the Major finals to 1-1.

Kyrgios, on the other hand, had skipped both the French Open and Wimbledon. This year, he has played just four tournaments and registered his first match win not before the Miami Open. Since his second-round defeat to Karen Khachanov in Miami, Kyrgios hasn’t yet participated in a tournament.

Seal says Jannik Sinner is a role model for young people

Famous singer and songwriter Seal was present at Flushing Meadows when Jannik Sinner lifted the US Open last year. The four-time Grammy winner was also a part of the Centre Court crowd when the 23-year-old beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.

Following his win, Sinner shared a warm embrace with the 62-year-old, who later only had kind words for the youngster. What Seal admires the most about Sinner is that he is constantly striving for improvement, and the kind of person the World No.1 is.

I met his father for a few minutes, and I can only imagine how great his parents are, what family means to him. You can see he has excellent parents, because he’s polite to everyone, he treats famous people like his cleaning lady with the same kindness.

Seal told Quotidiano Nazionale

The English singer also revealed that he had met Sinner for the first time at the US Open four years ago and became friends. The ‘Kiss from a Rose’ singer is also convinced that Sinner will achieve incredible results in the years to come.

Sinner’s next major goal will be to defend his US Open title. Last year, he defeated home favorite Taylor Fritz in the final. He will kick-start his campaign on the North American hard-court swing at the Canadian Open, where last year, his campaign ended in the quarterfinals.
