Novak Djokovic, wife test negative for coronavirus

Novak Djokovic and his wife have tested negative for coronavirus just 10 days after it was revealed the couple had tested positive.

"Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena are negative for COVID-19. That was shown by the results of the PCR tests that both had in Belgrade,'' his media team said in a statement.

After testing positive, Djokovic and Jelena went into self-isolation and before testing negative, the two had not shown any symptoms of COVID-19. The two tested positive shortly after Djokovic organized the Adria Tour, an exhibition held in Zadar, Croatia.

The event reportedly had no social-distancing guidelines and was canceled after several participants, including Viktor Troicki, Grigor Dimitrov and Borna Coric, tested positive for COVID-19. Djokovic's coach, Goran Ivanisevic, has also said he has the virus.

Djokovic offered his apology for his involvement in the tournament after testing positive, admitting it was a mistake to do so in the midst of a pandemic.

"I am so deeply sorry our tournament has caused harm. Everything the organizers and I did the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions," Djokovic said. "We believed the tournament met all health protocols and the health of our region seemed in good condition to finally unite people for philanthropic reasons. We were wrong and it was too soon. I can’t express enough how sorry I am for this and every case of infection."

Cases are currently spiking in Serbia and new social-distancing measures have been put into place, including people wearing masks.
