Roger Federer, Naomi Osaka to play in US Open

Tennis legend Roger Federer recently withdrew from this summer's Olympic Games held in Tokyo after he suffered a setback with his surgically repaired knee. World No. 2 Naomi Osaka, meanwhile, is set to compete in the Olympics and the National Bank Open held in Montreal next month after missing time for mental health reasons.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), both Federer and Osaka have officially been entered in the singles fields for the US Open scheduled to run in New York from Aug. 30 through Sept. 12.

Federer crashed out of Wimbledon in the quarterfinal round, while Osaka has been out of action since she withdrew from the French Open after she declared she wouldn't participate in press obligations.

Men's world No. 1 Novak Djokovic won this year's first three Grand Slams and is pursuing Olympic gold before he heads to New York, potentially with a "golden slam" in reach. Women's world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty is also in the US Open singles field.

Rafael Nadal pulled out of Wimbledon and the Olympics but, per Bob Williams of Sport Business, will play in New York.
