Usain Bolt makes bold claim about his money

Usain Bolt claims millions of dollars of his money is missing from a private investment firm account. Now authorities are investigating, according to a report.

Lawyers for the Jamaican sprinter sent a letter to Jamaican firm Stocks & Securities Unlimited demanding that the $12.7 million allegedly missing be returned, according to the Associated Press.

The firm claimed Bolt’s account balance is $12,000.

Bolt has remained mostly under the radar since he retired in 2017. He is best known as the “world’s fastest man,” and still holds the world record in the 100-meter dash at 9.572. Bolt, also the world record holder in the 200 meters, competed for Jamaica in the Olympics, winning eight gold medals.

Known for his infectious smile and personality, Bolt remains one of the most recognizable track and field athletes.

Bolt’s attorneys stated if the money is not returned in 10 days, civil and criminal consequences could result, according to the AP.

“If this is correct, and we are hoping it is not, then a serious act of fraud larceny or a combination of both have been committed against our client,” Bolt’s attorneys wrote in the letter obtained by the AP.

The firm did not respond to an AP request for comment.

Jamaican authorities took over management of the financial firm and require governmental approval for any transaction. The country’s finance minister, Nigel Clarke, told the wire service the situation was unusual.

“It is tempting to doubt our financial institutions, but I would ask that we don’t paint an entire hard-working industry with the brush of a few very dishonest individuals,” Clark told the AP.
