There’s no doubt Caitlin Clark is the hottest name in college basketball this year. But if an anonymous WNBA general manager is to be believed, the Iowa Hawkeyes star is worth an entire team to trade after the Indiana Fever selected her first.
During her time playing for the Hawkeyes, Clark managed to transcend college basketball in the four years she played in Iowa. Even during her freshman year, the two-time Wooden Awardee stood out when she averaged 26.6 points on 45 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from deep, while making 5.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game.
Caitlin took her game up a notch during her final year in college. Over the course of 39 games, the Iowa Hawkeyes star posted averages of 31.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. And while her team lost to a Kamilla Cardoso-led South Carolina Gamecocks squad, the guard still managed to reach the championship round and dominated every other team in the NCAA Tournament.
A few weeks after the NCAA Tournament ended, the Indiana Fever selected Clark as the first pick in this year’s Draft. Her arrival is projected to improve not only the team, but the league as a whole when the new season starts.
Caitlin Clark Draws Insane Return According to Anonymous WNBA General Manager
If one anonymous WNBA general manager is to be believed, Clark is worth a lot of value now that she’s in the league. In an article written by Ben Pickman and Mike Vorkunov for The Athletic:
“I would trade my whole team for her,” said one general manager, granted anonymity by The Athletic to speak freely about Clark. “Partly because our owner would do it to sell tickets. But on top of that, that’s such a great piece to start to build around. She’s (like Diana) Taurasi coming out, and look what Taurasi’s done,” Pickman and Vorkunov wrote.
Clark is projected to start for the Fever when the new season starts. The Iowa Hawkeyes guard is expected to bring the kind of game that propelled her in college to the pros soon, as well as her talent to draw the crowds to watch.
The WNBA is set to return on May 14 and Clark will play her first game against the Connecticut Sun on the same date. Needless to say, a lot of eyes will be on her when that day comes.
