Chicago Sky sign coach/GM James Wade to four-year extension

The Chicago Sky announced on Thursday that they've signed head coach and general manager James Wade to a four-year contract extension that will keep him linked with the organization through the 2025 WNBA season.

Wade has served as Chicago head coach since before the 2019 campaign and has tallied a 32-24 record. He guided the Sky to playoff appearances in each of the past two seasons and won 2019 WNBA Coach of the Year honors.

"I feel like I found a home," Wade said in the prepared statement. "I truly appreciate the organization for trusting in me and seeing me as a part of their future. I feel extremely fortunate and am excited to lead this franchise to what we hope will be many successful seasons to come."

Sky owner Michael Alter added:

"James has done a remarkable job of establishing a winning environment, culture, and team comradery. He is an excellent teacher and coach, both on and off the court. This well-deserved extension represents stability for our team and we are proud to have James lead us forward."

Per Mechelle Voepel of ESPN, Wade is one of three Black head coaches in the WNBA. He first began working in the league as a coaching intern in 2012.
