Eyes were fixated on former Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark during the 2024 WNBA Draft. The spectacular guard has been unstoppable in college, and the amount of press she’s gotten after being selected first overall by the Indiana Fever is a clear indication of how popular she is.

However, another teammate of hers managed to cut out a professional career for herself. While she doesn’t command as much attention as Clark, she’s also a talented athlete who can make a positive impact on the team that drafted her.

Caitlin Clark reacts to Iowa Hawkeyes teammate Kate Martin getting drafted by Las Vegas Aces

Kate Martin didn’t get as much attention as Clark during her final season with the Hawkeyes. It’s hard to stand out when your teammate is dumping at least thirty points a game on opposing teams, after all.

However, when Martin’s name finally got called by the Aces, her former teammate immediately took to social media to celebrate her dreams becoming reality.

She’s been a reliable teammate of Clark through their four seasons together, notching 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 50.7% shooting and 37.0% from long range.

While Martin knew she was good enough to get drafted, she didn’t know if she was actually going to get selected when she attended the draft.

Per The Spun’s Andrew Gould:

“I’m really happy to be here,” Martin said at the draft. “I was here to support Caitlin, but I was hoping to hear my name called. All I wanted was an opportunity, and I got it, so I’m really excited.”

Martin will link up with another former Hawkeye when she officially joins the team. Megan Gustafson used to hold the school record for career points before Caitlin Clark blew it out of the water.

It will be interesting to see Martin and Clark play on opposing sides, but Iowa Hawkeyes fans will just be happy to see two of their former stars get a chance to shine in the pros.
