Free agency in the WNBA starts Saturday at midnight. Breanna Stewart is the top free agent, and the Washington Mystics are one of four teams looking to land the two-WNBA champion.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Stewart will meet with the Mystics, Seattle Storm, Minnesota Lynx, and the New York Liberty. The meetings will take place in Istanbul, where Stewart is currently playing.

Stewart hinted at her free agency by posting four emojis that fit
each team.

Breanna Stewart has spent her entire seven-year career with the Storm. In addition to two titles, Stewart is a two-time WNBA Finals MVP. She was named the 2018 WNBA MVP and is a four-time All-Star.

Last season, Stewart led the league with 21.8 points per game.

The Mystics have five players under contract for the 2023 season, Elena Dell Donne, Shakira Austin, Natasha Cloud, Myisha Hines-Allen, and Ariel Atkins. Stewart would be a huge grab for the Mystics. Washington is looking to return to the WNBA Finals after winning the title in 2019.

Washington finished last season with a 22-14 record. They made the playoffs but got eliminated in the first round by the Storm.

Stewart and Della Donne would form a dynamic duo. But the Mystics are still a long shot to land Stewart. The Storm can offer her the most money. Stewart is a Syracuse native, and the Liberty presents her with an opportunity to return to her home state.

Meanwhile, Stewart’s decision is linked to Chicago Sky Courtney Vandersloot. Vandersloot is a native of Kent, Washington just outside of Seattle. Vandersloot slates to meet with the Storm, Lynx, and Liberty but not the Mystics.
