Police open investigation into WNBA All-Star's missing kicks

WNBA superstar Sabrina Ionescu informed fans via social media on Thursday that her beloved "Sabrina 1" basketball shoes had been stolen.

Now, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the alleged theft.

According to a TMZ Sports report on Friday, a police spokesperson said that no arrests had been made yet amid an "ongoing investigation."

Per the report, the Sabrina 1 is slated to be released for public purchase on Sept 1.

The 25-year-old New York Liberty guard claimed that two pairs of the Nike sneakers were taken from Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, where her team squared off against the Aces on Tuesday and again on Thursday. Ionescu shared photos of the shoes, one pair sporting the University of Oregon's colors (her alma mater) and one pair in gray, to honor Nike founder Phil Knight.

The two-time All-Star didn't let the missing kicks impact her performance in Thursday's contest, as she finished with 22 points on 7-for-16 shooting, including 6-for-12 from three-point land. Ionescu leads the WNBA in three-point field goals this season, converting on 107 of her 238 attempts in 29 games.

According to the above report, she signed an endorsement deal with Nike in 2020 to become the first women's basketball player to "create a unisex collection with the corporation."

Ionescu is having a huge fourth season in the Association, averaging 17.0 points, 5.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds and a career-low 2.6 turnovers per game, while posting a career-best .450 three-point field goal percentage as well.
