The Chicago Sky looks to be going through a rebuild. Candace Parker, Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, and a few other players are gone. Chicago made a couple of moves Thursday, and one was signing guard Courtney Williams.

Courtney Williams

Last season with Connecticut Sun, Williams averaged 11.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Williams helped lead the Sun to the WNBA Finals, but they came up short to the Las Vegas Aces.

Williams will probably start at the shooting guard position next to Dana Evans. The former Sun player is athletic and a high-energy player. In addition, Williams is a player capable of getting hot from the outside. She is very aggressive and loves the mid-range game, but she can get to the rim and shoot the three.

In 2021 Williams made her only All-Star appearance while with the Atlanta Dream when she averaged 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Her 6.8 rebounds per game led the team. It is incredible at 5’8; Williams led the dream in rebounding. Her willingness is rebound could help the Sky because she can grab the rebound and push the tempo up the floor.

In Williams’s WNBA career, she has averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. She shot 43% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc. Adding Williams is a good signing for the Sky; she is a volume scorer with a ton of fight in her, and she will not back down from anybody; Williams will definitely bring toughness and girt to Chicago.

The only other players besides Kahleah Copper on the Sky’s roster are reserves Ruthy Hebard, Julie Allemand, Dana Evans, Isabelle Harrison, and Li Yueru. So there is a lot of work for James Wade to do to fill out the rest of the roster.
