Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever had to make a tough decision on Thursday. This came in the form of a mid-season roster cut after just five games played in the 2026 campaign.

The team announced on Thursday that guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough has been released and will now part ways with the team. The 5-foot-9 guard joined the Fever in the offseason and earned herself a one-year contract after training camp. That deal has now been waived, and she will now need to look for a new team.

Walker-Kimbrough made an appearance in two out of Indiana’s first five games of the season, playing a combined seven minutes off the bench.

This is an unfortunate yet necessary development for the Fever as they look to refine their roster after their 3-2 start. The Fever have an excess of backcourt players in their lineup, and Walker-Kinbrough was at the bottom of the pecking order for Coach White.

While the move does not come as a complete shock, the unwanted turn of events still drew many reactions from fans on social media.

“Thank you, Shatori! Wishing you the best on your next journey

️” a comment on Instagram read.

“Man, she was ballin in Pre-season. Coach never played her,” another said.

“No disrespect to Shatori but our roster wasn’t build properly and we need to fix this. Shatori did well in pre season and I hope she finds a home somewhere in the W.” a user wrote.

“I knew this was coming. Saw her just sitting and not even playing,” a reaction read.

“Doesn’t seem she got much of a chance . Wishing you the best Shatori !” said another.

“Thank you but I am glad she’s gone. Can we please get another big,” a fan wrote.

The Fever now have one roster spot available after waiving Shatori-Kimbrough. It’s possible that the team will add a frontcourt player to back up Aliyah Boston and Monique Billings.
