According to Sports Illustrated, in this recent cycle of the WNBA offseason, former Las Vegas Aces and now Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum was delt in a three-trade that included Jewell Loyd coming down to Las Vegas from the Seattle Storm.
The trade was one of the biggest and most talked about trades this offseason.
While with the Aces, Plum helped lead the team to two back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023.
Although Plum was traded, she did have somewhat of a hand in her decision to be traded to the Aces along with the Aces being in agreement.
With her burning to desire to make her exit from the organization, one would wonder what the motivation for was leaving and what possibly had gone wrong in the relationship between Plum and the Aces.
When speaking to the media on Monday, May 12, Plum set the record straight about her departure from the Aces organization.
Plum said, “I’m forever grateful for my time in Vegas. There’s no animosity or ill will. It was time for me to grow. That’s why I took a leap of faith. It’s just time for a new chapter in my life–personally and professionally,” per an X post from Sara Jane Gamelli of BallisLife.com.
“I think we should cut that narrative, because there is no narrative there,” Plum added, seemingly addressing the narrative about there being some issue between her and the Aces’ franchise.
Another X post from Sara Jane Gamelli quoted Plum saying of joining the Sparks, “Everything starts and ends with a vision. What really drew me was the vision of what coach sees for this franchise. They understand the previous success in championships.”
The Aces and the Sparks meet for the first time in the 2025 season on May 30 in Las Vegas.
The sparks are sure to fly between the two teams.
