After going 20-20 and getting swept in the first round of the WNBA playoffs last year, the Indiana Fever are gearing up for what they hope will be a title run in 2025.

They have assembled a strong young core that includes guard Kelsey Mitchell, forward Aliyah Boston and, of course, budding superstar Caitlin Clark.

The Fever's first game of the regular season will take place on May 17 at home against the Chicago Sky. That means it will be the latest installment in the emerging rivalry between Clark and Angel Reese.

Indiana posted a video on its official X account of players practicing as they get ready for the start of the 44-game schedule.

Clark's rivalry with Reese first gained national attention in the 2023 women's national championship game when her Iowa Hawkeyes battled Reese's LSU Tigers. The Tigers won that game 102-85, but the following year, Iowa defeated LSU in the Elite Eight, 94-87, as Clark poured in 41 points.

She became the NCAA's all-time leading scorer among both men and women in 2024 before entering the WNBA. As a rookie, Clark led the league in assists and was named to the All-Star team while taking home Rookie of the Year honors.

As the rivalry has moved to the WNBA, the Fever and Sky are both making moves to build their teams into contenders.

In last month's draft, Indiana took Makayla Timpson, a Florida State forward who excels defensively and on the boards. Fans hope she cracks the final roster, especially since Indiana ranked toward the bottom of the WNBA in defensive rating last year.

The team also brought in Natasha Howard, a veteran forward who averaged 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last year.

Meanwhile, the Sky, who went 13-27 in 2024, drafted talented guard Hailey Van Lith in the first round and traded for two-time All-Star guard Ariel Atkins.
