PHOENIX- The Phoenix Mercury announced on Thursday that guard Diana Taurasi will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor and have her jersey number retired in Summer 2026.

Taurasi announced her retirement from the WNBA after 20 seasons on February 25.

“Diana is the greatest of all time. What she has done over the last 20 years is truly remarkable,” Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia said in a press release. “From championships to MVPs to gold medals, she is one of the most decorated athletes of all time and we’re excited to celebrate all she’s done for the sport, the franchise and our city with her induction into our Ring of Honor.”

Taurasi will join Jennifer Gillom, Cheryl Miller, Bridget Pettis, Penny Taylor and Michele Timms as a part of the team’s Ring of Honor.

Throughout her career, Taurasi led her franchise to three WNBA Championships and became one of the best scorers and trash talkers in league history. She won the league MVP award in 2009 and has been named to the All-WNBA First and Second Teams 14 times.

Taurasi participated in 11 WNBA All-Star games and finished her career with a total of 10,646 points. She also set league records with 3,341 field goals made, 1,447 three-pointers made, and 2,517 free throws made, all of which are the highest in WNBA history.

I had a great conversation with Mat (Ishbia),” Taurasi said Thursday. “And whenever you talk to Mat, he just gives you this burst of energy. He just really makes you want to really represent this city in this club and this franchise. He has such love and admiration, and it’s really nice to feel that after you put in so much work. The names up there are just legends that I looked up to, shared the court with, and won championships with.”
